JobWatch is an independent, not-for-profit employment rights community legal centre supporting workers in Victoria, Queensland and Tasmania with their rights at work. We are committed to improving the lives of workers, particularly the most vulnerable and disadvantaged. Established in 1980, we are the only service of our kind in Victoria, Queensland and Tasmania.
Our primary activities include our free and confidential Telephone Information Service, our legal practice, our law reform work and community legal education.
The JobWatch Telephone Information Service takes over 15,000 calls annually from workers across the country and assists them with their rights at work. JobWatch is in a unique position to understand new and emerging trends in employment law and its impact on everyday workers.

Zana Bytheway has led JobWatch for more than 25 years, steering the organisation through major reforms in employment law and workplace safety. A nationally recognised advocate for workers’ rights, Zana brings expertise in sexual harassment prevention, psychosocial health, discrimination law, and systemic advocacy.
She is a frequent media commentator and public speaker known for her clarity, empathy, and practical insight into how policy changes affect real people.

Can JobWatch comment on individual cases?
We comment on systemic issues and can provide de-identified case studies. We may connect journalists with workers who have consented to share their experiences, but we cannot discuss active legal matters.
Does JobWatch represent workers in court?
We provide legal information and advice, and representation through our casework program.
Can Zana comment on national issues?
Yes. While JobWatch is based in Victoria, we support workers in Victoria, Queensland and Tasmania. Drawing on frontline experience and federal workplace law, Zana regularly comments on national workplace issues and employment reform.
