Overwhelmed and Frustrated: Experiences of workplace sexual harassment and discrimination; the barriers faced with the legal system, is a new research report into the actions taken by workers after experiencing workplace sexual harassment and discrimination. This report has been released by JobWatch, RMIT and University of Wollongong.
Survey respondents reported overwhelmingly poor responses from employers, with three in five employers not taking complaints of harassment and discrimination seriously and failing to protect their employees. Respondents also reported frustration with trying to navigate the legal system on their own.
JobWatch provided 10 recommendations for improving access to justice for workers, including the standardisation of time limits for discrimination claims to 24 months across all jurisdictions.
