Zana Bytheway, an executive director at legal rights service JobWatch, says there is one key factor to consider.
“Generally speaking an employee should disclose to their employer if they have a medical condition that affects their work,” she says.
“If it doesn’t, then there’s no need to make the disclosure.”
If you’re working on an assembly line, and have a health issue that is causing you to experience tremors, it’s important your employer is aware so they can manage potential health and safety issues, Ms Bytheway says.
Many chronic health issues, including endometriosis, meet the definitions of disability under Australian laws, Ms Bytheway says.
