New multi-lingual hub supporting culturally and linguistically diverse workers

JobWatch is proud to present new multi-lingual resources for our clients, community and colleagues in the legal sector.

December 15, 2021

Statistics from JobWatch’s TIS database show that people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities are often more vulnerable to unfair and inequitable working situations, especially if they are unable to access information about their rights at work due to language barriers. These risks are amplified if they are experiencing additional disadvantages including but not limited to migrant or refugee status, temporary visa status, disability status, gender, or unstable family situations.

To address the barriers to legal information and provide workplace rights support, we have created a new multi-lingual ‘hub’ on our website which provides key employment law information in the top 10 languages other than English that are spoken in Victoria – Mandarin (Traditional Chinese), Italian, Greek, Vietnamese, Arabic, Cantonese (Simplified Chinese), Punjabi, Hindi, Sinhalese and Spanish. This information is available directly on our website, with downloadable PDFs for each language.

We are also aiming to support more workers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds directly through our Telephone Information Service and Legal Practice, and can support these clients with interpreter services. If you have a client who fits in this category, we encourage you to make a referral to JobWatch.

We thank the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation for their support of this important work.
