New research report on Workplace Sexual Harassment and Discrimination

A new research report by JobWatch, RMIT and University of Wollongong – Overwhelmed and Frustrated: Experiences of Workplace Sexual Harassment and Discrimination; the barriers faced with the legal system, was launched on Wednesday 8 November 2023.

November 08, 2023

“It’s been the hardest, most isolating and damaging experience I have ever been through. There’s little to no support and feels like I’ve been fighting a losing battle since the day I made the initial report to my employers.” (Survey Respondent)

There is a notable gap in justice system data about the non-legal and legal actions that are taken by workers after experiencing workplace sexual harassment and discrimination. This new research report lifts the veil from these experiences, and shares the voices of those impacted, using survey data and responses from callers to the JobWatch Telephone Information Service.

The launch event included an address by Victorian Parliamentary Secretary for Justice Nina Taylor MP, a review of the research findings by Zana Bytheway, Executive Director of JobWatch, and further commentary on key issues by Professor Georgina Heydon from RMIT University and Dr Rachel Loney-Howes from the University of Wollongong.

We thank the Law Institute of Victoria for generously providing the venue for this event. Thank you also to Wisewould Mahony for generously supporting catering for this event.
